RAM is one of the most important components in computer. We cannot say that one part is more important, and the other less, but the RAM (random access memory) is an indispensable element in the work of the PC. We can say that memory is a kind of buffer zone, the binding element between man and computer. The physical memory is represented in the form of a removable module that is installed in a special slot on the motherboard to the right of the CPU. On most motherboards, these connectors are two or four. In this module to one or both sides of the chip are located, which, in fact, are the memory.
DDR RAM (Double Data Rate) SDRAM became the next stage of development, and is characterized by a doubled data rate. Various well as the number of contacts (184 Pin DIMM RAM vs. 168 Pin DIMM RAM) and keys (1 to 2). First in line was the PC1600 module with a chip DDR200, the effective frequency 200 MHz (at 100 MHz memory bus) and a capacity of 1600 MB / s. The last was to be the 1GB DDR400 PC3200 (i.e. 1GB PC3200 DDR 400MHz, 3200 MB / s), but also produced modules PC4200 (DDR533, 533 MHz) or higher.
In addition to the increased speed, DDR memory had the opportunity to work in dual-channel mode, which in theory should increase the speed (or rather, the bandwidth) twice. To do this, you need to be inserted into the motherboard, which also had to maintain such a regime, the two strips with exactly the same characteristics. In practice, the rate of increase is not as noticeable as it is described in theory. Subsequently, the two-channel mode will support and all other types of DDR-memory.

The first memory DDR SDRAM appeared in 2001. Today it still is, of course, to be found in older computers, but it is very rare. Already in 2003-2004, it was replaced by a DDR2 SDRAM - the second generation with double the frequency of the bus. DDR2 memory is the difference in the housing (240 contacts and other key location), which make it not interchangeable with DDR. The line began with a module PC2-3200, DDR2-400 worked on the chip with an effective frequency of 400 MHz and a bandwidth of 3200 MB / s. The latter has been steadily working module 4GB DDR2 800MHz (DDR2-800, 800 MHz, 6400 MB / s).
